"Which
hope we have as an anchor of the soul both Sure and Steadfast, and
which entereth into within the veil." Hebrews 6:19
A
Brief History
The
30th company was started at Grace Gospel Chapel in 1973 by Mr. Charles
Smith. During that time we met twice per week, Mondays at 7:30 pm
and Saturday at 3:00 pm. Initially there were two officers, namely
Mr. Humes, Coleby, and Mr. Leon Graham. They were later joined by
Mr. Andrew Thompson. Our regular attendance was usually around thirty-two
(32) boys at both Saturday and Monday Meetings. Saturday nights
for Drill and Games. After leaving the Church (Grace), Meetings
were held at C.I. Gibson Secondary School. During this period, the
membership dropped until the early 1980's When the membership regained
its strength. The meeting Dates were changed to Saturdays at 1:00
pm Our attendance hovers at around sixty-five . In April 1997 we
meet for two and one half hours each Saturday beginning at 1:00
pm. Our attendance hovers at around sixty-five. In April 1997 we
celebrated our 24th Anniversary. Currently we are ably led by Captain
Charles Smith, and his board of Noncommissioned Officers (NCOs)
consisting of Lieutenant Brian Rolle, Lieutenant Ada Smith, Lieutenant
Leslie Munnings, Warrant Officer Kirk Rolle, Warrant Officer Gowon
Nairn, Warrant Officer Locksley Knowles Jr., Warrant Officer Kiko
Bridgewater, Staff Sergeant Mark Hepburn, Corporal Ken Rolle, and
Lance Corporal Almund McIntosh.
This
dream team has been chosen to carry on the 30th Company and we are
committed to executing our object:
The
Advancement of Christ's Kingdom among boys and the promotion of
habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect, and all
that tends toward a true Christian manliness.
On
formal occasions
We wear uniform and use drill because we think that pride in appearance
and a measure of self-control are worth while. Uniforms may be ordered
from designated uniform officers. Boys under 11 wear navy blue shorts,
a black belt, a short-sleeved white shirt, a blue neck tie, navy
blue socks, black shoes, and a BB hat with crest. Boys over 11 wear
long navy blue pants, long-sleeved white shirt, white haversack,
navy blue neck tie, BB Brass Buckle belt, navy blue socks, and black
leather shoes.
Physical Activities
Physical activities are a major part of our program because most
Boys enjoy them and want to do well at them. A Company's program
is determined in part by the environment - you can't canoe without
water!- and even more by the leadership available. In general the
BB provides literature and training opportunities for expeditions,
swimming and life-saving and a wide range of other indoor and outdoor
sport and pastimes. At 30th Company, our Boys enjoy Basketball,
Track 'n Field, Bike-a-thons, Walk-a-thons, and many creative games
and field trips.
Other Activities
Boys don't always enjoy lessons on the weekend like the ones they
have in school, but they are still curious and lively. In the BB
we offer training in first aid and safety, many kinds of music-making,
in nature study and in a host of other hobbies and interests. We
are always on the lookout for men and woman who can share their
own special enthusiasms with our Boys.
Competitions
Besides Sports, our company gives our boys several opportunities
to demonstrate their abilities and discover hidden talents. Each
year we host Bible Knowledge, Spellings Bee, drill, General knowledge,
Arts & Crafts, and Speech Competitions.
Worship & Service
We are the same BB. We do our best to show the boys that Jesus Christ
is Lord of life. Our Officers are chosen as men and woman who are
committed Christians. The BB and the local church together count
upon them to share their faith with the Boys. Each Company agrees
with its church, its plan for Christian Education. Sometimes this
leads to a Company Bible Class. At our company, we hold regular
Chapel Services and we encourage our boys to participate in the
worship of the our Lord.
Company Structure
The 30th Company is divided into three sections:
The Pre-Junior Section Boys Ages 5 to 7
The Junior Section Boys Ages 8 to 10
The Senior Section Boys Ages 11 and up.
Each Section has an NCO in charge and an Assistant. Each Section
meets separately.
We find that this gives us the ability to communicate more effectively
as older boys understand on a different level than younger boys.
Subscriptions/Dues
The Dues for Pre-Juniors is $20.00/year.
The Dues Juniors is $20.00/year.
The Dues for Senior is $30.00/year.
The Dues for NCO is $60.00/year.
Each year a deadline is set for dues to be paid in full.
If a boy joins the company after that date, he is expected to pay
the full years subscription within three weeks of joining the company.

The Boys, Brigade Prayer
Bless, O God, The Boys' Brigade, and give to it a greater power
to advance your Kingdom throughout the world. Grant in Your mercy
that every member, past and present, may prove stedfast in his fight
against evil, and true in times of temptation; give us courage in
difficulty; faithfulness in duty; loyalty in friendship; and finally,
by Your mercy, bring us into Your everlasting kingdom, through Jesus
Christ our Lord,
Amen
The Grace
The Grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ and the love of God, and the
Fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us now and forever more.
Amen
